“Overview
The Newton International Fellowship aims to attract the world’s most promising early-career post-doctoral researchers to the UK. It provides an opportunity to conduct high-quality research at a UK host institution for 2 years, fostering long-term international collaboration.
Key Information
– Opening Date: 15 January 2026
– Closing Date: 12 March 2026 (Approximate – TBC by Royal Society)
– Duration: 2 years (Full-time)
– Host Institution: Any UK University or Research Institute.
Financial Support
– Subsistence/Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum.
– Research Expenses: Up to £10,000 per annum (for consumables, equipment, and travel).
– Relocation Expenses: Up to £3,500 (including visa costs).
– Alumni Funding: Potential for follow-on funding (up to £6,000/year for 10 years) to maintain the link with the UK.
Eligibility Criteria
– Degree: Must hold a PhD or be in the final stages of completion (viva must be passed before the start of the fellowship).
– Experience: Should have no more than 7 years of active full-time post-doctoral experience at the time of application.
– Residency: Must be working outside the UK at the time of application and must not hold UK citizenship.
– English Proficiency: Must be competent in oral and written English.
Eligible Research Fields
– The Royal Society: Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.).
– The British Academy: Social Sciences and Humanities.
